Author Biography

Dr. Kenneth Forman

Dr. Forman started his career in education as a middle school science teacher for the NYC public schools.  He has served as middle school assistant principal, director of state and federal programs, director of curriculum and instruction, executive assistant to the superintendent, and most importantly, principal in NYC and Long Island public schools, having 39 years’ of experience.  He is currently the coordinator of Educational Leadership Programs and instructor in Stony Brook University’s Educational Leadership Program. He is also the author of Diving into Data, a companion book that deals with thoughtful use of data for improved school leader decision-making and student achievement. Dr. Forman has received recognition as “Friend of Education” from Phi Delta Kappa and member of the New York Academy for Public Education.  He has written many journal articles, too numerous to mention. He also serves an educational consultant to a variety of educational organizations, and most recently as an advisor to a New York State Regent.


Dr. Forman is a graduate of Queens College, Brooklyn College, and received his doctorate from New York University in Educational Administration.


Jeffrey Soloff

Mr. Soloff earned his certificate in educational administration, masters and bachelor’s degrees from Brooklyn College.  His professional interests include developing a cadre of future school leaders and performing School Quality Reviews throughout the United States.  Jeffrey has been an adjunct professor of educational leadership at Stony Brook University in New York since 2001.  He teaches courses in leadership theory, leadership practice, building administration and supervises administrative interns.


His career began in 1970 as an elementary school teacher.  Subsequently, he assumed a variety of administrative positions at the building and district levels.  Jeffrey spent nineteen years as an elementary school principal in New York City and in the Plainedge School District in North Massapequa, New York.


Jeffrey’s years of administrative experience in public schools have given him a vast amount of knowledge and expertise that he has incorporated into this book.
