Summary

Get practical information for understanding connected-systems applications and hands-on guidance for using WinFX managed APIs. The book features explanations of workflow-oriented enterprise application solutions, best practice, and code samples. Long Description This practical, hands-on guide offers you the information you need to understand next-generation, connected-systems applications. Unlike other documentation, this book provides the conceptual and technical bridging necessary for Microsoft .NET developers to understand the messaging and orchestration concepts of connected systems and how they apply to the work they are already doing. In addition to demonstrating the new managed APIs of WinFX in the context of connected systems, you will gain a firm grounding in the architecture of Microsoft's connected-systems solution and a solid understanding of the concepts, tools, and techniques involved in messaging and orchestration scenarios. With explanations of workflow-oriented enterprise application solutions, guidance on how to adapt solutions to fit individual situations, best practices, and code samples, this book helps developers understand how to use the Windows Communication Foundation and the Windows Workflow Foundation with BizTalk Server to prepare for the new world of WinFX applications. WinFX is the new managed-code programming model for Windows, starting with Microsoft Windows VistaTM. WinFX is a superset of the Microsoft .NET Framework, designed to expose the new functionality in Windows Vista to the developer through managed classes. The Windows Communication Foundation, formerly code-named "Indigo," is Microsoft's unified programming model for building service-orientedapplications with managed code. It extends the .NET Framework to enable developers to build secure and reliable transacted Web services that integrate across platforms and interoperate with existing investments. The Windows Workflow Foundation is the programming model, engine, and tools for quickly building workflow-enabled applications on Windows. It consists of a WinFX namespace, an in-process workflow engine, and designers for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. The Windows Workflow Foundation includes support for both system workflow and human workflow across a wide range of scenarios, including workflow within line-of-business applications, user interface page-flow, document-centric workflow, human workflow, composite workflow for service-oriented applications, business rule-driven workflow, and workflow for systems management. BizTalk Server, part of Microsoft Windows Server SystemTM, uses the latest technologies and industry standards to help companies manage and automate business processes and integrate disparate systems across the enterprise.
