Summary

This book provides a detailed step-by-step description of protocols for the establishment of in vitro cultures of important medicinal plants, their mass multiplication in controlled environment, and step-wise secondary metabolite analysis. In addition, many of these protocols will provide a basis for much needed efforts in germplasm conservation of medicinal species at the brink of extinction. Medicinal plant species are diverse and distinct in their growth patterns and their yield must be defines it terms of chemistry and in vitro cultures provide the vehicle to accomplish this objective. A comprehensive compilation of technical details and protocols for in vitro culture of medicinal plants is not currently available. The proposed is expected to be well received in academia, industry, and Government agencies.
