Author Biography

Mark Naison aka Notorious PhD is a professor at Fordham University who knows the streets of the Bronx as well as he knows the inside of a college library and has spent time in some of NY City's most famous jails. A longtime political activist, he has earned "street cred" through his you tube videos, his appearance on the Chappelle Show and contact with hip hop artists in Europe and the Bronx. Although he has published many books and articles on a wide variety of subjects, some people consider him the professor you'd least like to meet in a dark alley. PURE BRONX is his first novel. Melissa Castillo-Garsow is a Mexican American writer from New York pursuing her doctorate in American Studies at Yale University. In addition to being a published poet, journalist and short story writer, she has presented across the country on topics such as Hip Hop in Brazil and Street Literature. Her first novel, the streets and characters of Pure Bronx where inspired by living in East Harlem while attending school in the Bronx.
