Summary

The relationship between the EU and Central and Eastern Europe is one of the key issues for the future integration of Europe. This volume explores EU-CEE relations since 1989 and the conditions that have shaped them, focusing on the contribution by the EU to political, economic and social change within CEE countries in the context of a gradually emerging "European" policy. Part I examines EU-CEE relations. Part II concentrates on four case studies--the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary and Poland. The book concludes with two detailed chronologies of EU-CEE relations and a summary of the current Agenda 2000 proposal for EU enlargement.
