Author Biography

The recipe for Lynn Fischer's success began in the sleepy resort town of Virginia Beach, where her first starring roles were as homemaker, mother, marketing executive, and co-host of a local TV talk show. During these years, Lynn discovered that her husband was running the risk of coronary artery disease as a result of a dangerously high cholesterol level. Responding to her husband's immediate health needs, Lynn set out to learn all that she could to help him get his numbers under control. Her meticulous research led her to the conclusion that a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol was the first line of defense in curing and preventing heart disease. The next step was to cut the fat from her family's diet by changing methods of food preparation and food selection, while maintaining flavor, variety, and flexibility. It wasn't long before Lynn realized just how important her role of chief chef was in impacting her family's health and quality of life. From lower cholesterol numbers (her husband's fell by a dramatic 100 points!) and lower medical bills to higher energy and better moods, Lynn's hard work in the kitchen paid off handsomely. Ultimately, Lynn's concern for healthy lifestyles extended far beyond her own family's dinner table and has propelled her to her current position as a nationally recognized health expert, best-selling cookbook author, and host of over 200 national cooking shows.Lynn, who now lives in Washington, D.C., founded the National Women's Health Awareness Forum and is a former medical anchor at WTTG (Fox) in Washington. She hosts the popular cooking series "Healthy Indulgences" on PBS and was formerly known as "The Low Cholesterol Gourmet" on the Discovery Channel. She is coauthor of the bestseller The Low Cholesterol Gourmet with Dr. W. Virgil Brown, former president of the American Heart Association, and has also written The Quick Low Cholesterol Gourmet, Healthy Indulgences, The Better Sex Diet, and Fabulous Fat-Free.Pasta cecca, Caesar salad, and tart cherry pie are the special foods that tickle Lynn's taste buds. Friends and family touch her heart and fill her life. This enthusiastic proponent of healthy lifestyles strives each day to learn new skills, embrace new ideas, and through her professional efforts on television and in writing books, make a positive impact on the health and welfare of the world around her.
