Excerpts

One of the main concern's ex-smokers have is the future, they often meet people who say "I quit for 14 years" but now they are a full-time smoker again. This can be very discouraging but what I always say to that is they probably quit for all the wrong reasons. Most will follow it with an excuse like "I am going through a divorce" or "somebody close to me just passed away", "I just got a clean bill of health" and the most popular "we are all going to die someday". The way I interpret those is "I quit for my significant other", "Now people won't bother me about my smoking because I am grieving", "I quit because my doctor told me to" and "I relapsed, so instead of trying to quit again, I'll just hide my guilt behind the inevitable". All these reasons have one thing in common; that the individual didn't quit for them-self and if they did, they weren't very serious about it.
