Summary

RAINE MOSS was losing her mind, and only her sister, Dorsey, suspected it was due to something other than a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's. However, Raine's charming husband, Hartley, is a master at deception. When Raine suddenly inherits the family's ancestral home in North Georgia, Hartley shows his true colors and threatens to sell it to care for his wife in Atlanta at her assisted-living facility, Waterhaven. Dorsey knows it's to settle gambling debts.

Dorsey and the Dudley women battle him in court to gain control of Raine and their beloved farm, Thimbleberry. Eventually, when Hartley feels backed into a corner, he blackmails Dorsey's husband, Blue, for quick cash. He assumes Blue is an easy target, but Blue shows him that kindness doesn't equate to weakness.

Raine's health improves at Waterhaven due to the friendship she rekindles with another resident, her cousin, Etta DeRenne. Etta and her family have installed a magnificent garden that is a soothing balm for Raine's harried soul. She and Etta grow close, and when blind Dr. Broadmoor arrives on site, the three form a unique friendship, and an unconventional love story unfolds.

At last, it was time for Hartley's fiendish business plan to unfold, and he is told to clean up any loose ends. His handler knows that Raine witnessed something she shouldn't have, and though she has dementia, Hartley and his sinister cohorts can't risk a moment of her lucidity.

Author Biography

Kathy Taulman Vaughan is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and is the oldest of four girls. An English major at Stratford College in Virginia, she transferred to the University of Georgia to study journalism. More recently, she attended the Iowa School of Writing's summer workshop, where she studied fiction writing and faked reading Faulkner.

She is the author of "How to Tame a Wild Bore," followed by "From Debutante to Doublewide." The latter is a spine-tingling account of a southern belle plucked from the Land'O Cotton and planted in a cowboy town with more bars than churches.
Raine's story is her first work of fiction, and she is finishing the screenplay for a film of the same name.
