Excerpts

Reading Architectural Working Drawings, Sixth Edition,is intended to be an introduction to architectural working drawings for architectural and civil technology students, as well as for tradespeople, contractors, and the vast number of other people who must read and interpret the information found in construction documents including working drawings and specifications. This useful text covers the basics of architectural graphics, reading symbols, conventions, terms of the trade, and reading residential and other light-frame construction drawings. In addition, material on freehand sketching is presented so that students and others can further improve their communication skills when dealing with the technical information found in construction documents. A set of working drawings of a popular style of home by Design Traditions of Atlanta, along with related worksheets, is included. This new edition has been revised in a number of areas. All material graphic symbols have been updated to comply with the Uniform Drawing System and the United States National CAD Standard. The section on architectural abbreviations has been updated to comply with the UDS and the National CAD Standard. It has also been reorganized with the associations and organizations listed separately. The sections on computers and drawing printing have been updated to reflect current practices.
