Summary

Many textbooks teach students how to interpret EEGs, from introductory primers to comprehensive texts. Most of these books are good, though each has strengths and weaknesses. The style tends to be dry, and not particularly well organized for learning key points or for rapid review. Unlike the traditional division of EEG atlases and textbooks, this book will concentrate on pattern recognition and pattern comparison. The concepts of pattern recognition will be developed in a logical fashion based on appearance rather than by disease process. This book also will incorporate a question-and-answer format--effective for students at multiple levels of training. This book will employ a useful, easy-to-understand format for conveying the basics of EEG interpretation, similar to Dubin's Rapid Interpretation of EKGs. At present no textbook of EEG uses this style, and none has won universal acceptance. Most presentations take a top-down didactic approach, with lists and pictures of normal and abnormal findings. A unique feature of the book is that it will follow a teaching methodology in which concepts are developed sequentially and logically.
