Author Biography

Philip J. Ivanhoe is Findlay Visiting Professor at Boston University. His publications include Confucian Moral Self Cultivation (Hackett, 2000); Virtue, Nature, and Moral Agency in the Xunzi (Hackett, 2000), co-edited with T. C. Kline III; Ethics in the Confucian Tradition (Hackett, 2002); Essays on the Moral Philosophy of Mengzi (Hackett, 2002), co-edited with Xiusheng Liu; and The Daodejing of Laozi (Hackett, 2003).Bryan W. Van Norden is Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department and the Department of Chinese and Japanese at Vassar College. In addition to his book, Confucius and the Analects: New Essays (Oxford University Press, 2001), he has written, edited, and contributed to numerous works on Chinese thought.
