Excerpts

This book is organized in 4 different sections, the first section focuses on Supplier Interaction - You are in Charge. One of the key learning's as you interact with suppliers is to realize that you are the one who is in charge, given that you are the one spending the money and they need to close the deal to make their numbers. The second section focuses on platform vendor and professional services management. Most IT organizations are organized to address 90% or more of their work. Since the need for vertical services is not always warranted, IT organizations will bid and contract with other companies to provide technical expertise or hosted services on an as needed basis. Since the IT organization is dependent on the selected services, this section addresses the successful management of these arrangements. The third section focuses on Hardware Leasing. In this age of accelerated hardware obsolescence, your IT organization may choose to lease instead of purchase, building in a defined replacement period. There are many aspects to hardware leasing that, if not understood, could result in the lease being a very expensive and contentious experience. The fourth section focuses on Software License Management. Besides labor, software is one of the most expensive areas of an IT organization's budget. License Management can be very complex with multiple licensing approaches, license compliance requirements, and license inventory management. If the elements described in this section are followed, an IT shop may be able to increase the chance of minimizing the recurring cost of software and protect themselves from license compliance issues. The authors and publisher have made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information herein.
