Summary

Research on humans is an integral part of many disciplines, but the complexity of human behaviour presents many challenges to doing it well. Designed primarily for First year Psychology Undergraduates,Research with Peopleintroduces readers to the variety of methods needed to carry out successful research. It is distinguished by an approach that emphasises the importance of learning research methods alongside doing practical research. The book is therefore designed around a series of practical experiments that can be carried out in class. Each of these experiments brings its own challenges and considerations, and in this context the authors introduce the various facets of research: ethical consideration, experimental design, methods of observation and description, measuring and evaluating results and so on. This enables the reader to see the links between these aspects, rather than seeing them as discrete theoretical topics. It also gives a fuller learning experience with concepts worked out and understood in practice. The book contains a series of glossaries and checklists that will make it a valuable reference guide throughout the student's studies.
