From the dawn of cinema, images of Indigenous peoples have been dominated by Hollywood's stereotypical "cowboys and Indians" and often negative depictions of other Indigenous peoples around the globe. Today, however, many Indigenous peoples are working to redress the imbalance in numbers and counter the negativity. With the advent of digital technologies, they are taking advantage of film- and media-making opportunities and dramatically increasing production of Indigenous cinema and television. The contributors to Reverse Shotsoffer a unique scholarly perspective on current work in the world of Indigenous film and media.
