Summary

"Running with the Bats / Corriendo con los murciélagos" is a children's bilingual book written in English and Spanish. This original book tells the story of a young boy named Joe. After a baseball game with his friends one fall night, Joe says good bye and starts to walk home alone on a dark, country road. On his way home, he is caught in the midst of bats that are out hunting mosquitoes and fireflies. He thinks the bats are after him as they seem to be following him home. Scared, he recalls his father's words, "To be the greatest baseball player, you must be strong, be brave!" From these words, Joe finds the courage to face his fears. At the end of this exciting story, he learns why the bats were really out that night. "Running with the Bats / Corriendo con los murciélagos" is a suspenseful story with family values and themes written for third through fifth graders. It has discussion questions for parents and teachers to help children understand their fear of animals, it presents facts about bats that children would want to know, it includes Spanish and English glossaries, and it is written in narrative verse. The Spanish translation has been certified to be correct by a professor of Spanish at Northern Illinois University. The story is illustrated with 51 pen and ink drawings that captivate the reader's imagination. Please visit www.astakospublishing.com for reviews.
