Author Biography

Sam Choy was raised on the island of O'ahu, where he learned cooking basics while helping his father cater 800-person feasts for tourists. Choy went on to serve as executive sous chef at the Hyatt Kuilima Hotel, chef at the Oscar Restaurant at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, and executive chef at the Kona Hilton. In 1991, he opened his flagship Sam Choy's Restaurant in Kona. He has since opened other highly successful restaurants in Hawai'i, San Diego, and Tokyo. Choy has been nominated for Beard Awards and hosts a popular cooking show for NBC Hawai'i. He and his family live in Kona, Hawai'i.
