Summary

They encourage Bret to ask MELONY , AKA SCARECROW, the underdeveloped, skinny, bullied girl to the prom.At first Bret objects but he gives in in ordered to teach Holly a lesson.At the prom Holly humiliates Melony so fiercely that Bret and Melony leave, despite his best friends, VICTOR and BROOKE (who are going together) trying to protect Melony.To console Melony Bret takes her to the fancy country club his family belongs to.At the club Bret introduces Melony to his stepmother Hailey, also a movie star. Despite the fact that she is not much older than Bret, Hailey has raised him since he was nine and has become his real mom.Hailey takes an immediate liking to Melony, and does everything in her power to help make the situation right , filling the gap Melony has after her own mom died of breast cancer.Hailey talks to Holly, explains how hurtful she's being to others and herself by using her body to try to find love, and offers to help her get into the movie business if she'll change her ways and apologize to Melony.Bret and Melony become more and more involved and the spark urns into a hot flame.

Author Biography

My family fled the Netherlands shortly after the Nazi invasion. During that time, most countries did not accept refugees, and we passed through half a dozen countries before settling in Curacao and later in Aruba. We immigrated to the United States in 1952. I have lived and worked on four different continents.I am a graduate of Washington & Lee University and the NYU School of Law.After law school I joined a law firm in New York City. At Washington and Lee I had enrolled in the R.O.T.C program and was called to active duty in 1964. I served in the US Army in Germany, retiring as a captain after my tour of duty. The Secretary of the Army awarded me The Army Commendation Medal for my service. I took an overseas discharge and lived and worked in the Netherlands for many years. On returning to the United States, I joined the US subsidiary of a Chinese company. I am retired now and live in Michigan with my wife, Jan. I have two daughters, five wonderful grandchildren, and two great sons-in-law. Since retiring, I have published four novels
