Women and Society The Road to Change

The interface between women and society has witnessed great changes over the past few millennia. From gender equality in many societies in ancient times to the fight for reproductive rights, protest against domestic violence, and unequal wage to right to vote, maternity leave and so on in the last one hundred years or so, the story of women's emancipation has been eventful. Showcasing the personal narratives of twenty-two eminent women-scientists, social activists, writers, industrialists, administrators, artists, and corporate leaders-this volume reveals how women have overcome the restrictions of traditional patriarchal society to contribute to social change and development. Their life experiences show how proper education, training, independent thinking, and innovativeness can effect a sea change in the lives of women and how it impacts society at large. With an introduction by Ashok S. Kolaskar and Motilal Dash, this collection of essays will appeal to anybody keen on learning more about how in many ways women have spearheaded change for the good in our society.
