The work in hand describes encounters between visually impaired and sighted people. Its aim is to encourage readers to acquire insights into the world of experience of congenitally blind children, stimulate them with music therapy and to show how contacts between blind and sighted persons can be organised and understood. This leads to the realization that blind and sighted people live in two "different worlds" and that their being is shaped by different experiences and emotions. It can therefore be difficult to understand each other: A sighted person can visualize something, a blind person can-not. What means of contact and relation can help a blind person to establish a complete perception of an object, and how can sighted people assist this formation of symbols and con-cepts? In learning about the difficulties and abilities of blind people readers also acquire a greater awareness of their own abilities as a sighted person. On the basis of her own practical experience, Heike Wrogemann-Becker demonstrates how, aside from educational goals, music can be used as a universal language for blind children. The deep insights gained by her offer a repertoire of actions for the work with visually impaired people of all ages.
