Summary

On Sept. 19, 1864, a ragtag Confederate force of Texans and Native Americans led by Brig. Gens. Richard Gano and Stand Watie surprised and captured a 300 wagon Union supply train at Cabin Creek, Cherokee Nation in a rare Civil War night battle far behind enemy lines. The Confederates made it back to their base at Fort Towson with 130 wagons and supplies valued at more than $1.5 million. ($75 million in today’s dollars). It was the last major Confederate offensive and last major battle of the Civil War in Indian Territory. Amazingly, this is a virtually untold story of the American Civil War. Warren was writer and executive producer of the documentary "Last Raid at Cabin Creek," which is now part of the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.
