Author Biography

Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in 1849 in Manchester. After her father's death the family moved to Tennessee in 1865. She started writing for magazines soon after moving to the United States and went on to write, and have published, a number of adult novels. Little Lord Fauntleroy was published in 1886 followed by Little Princess in 1905 and The Secret Garden in 1911. These children's books are what she is now best known for, although her adult novels were very popular during her life. Frances Hodgson Burnett became a US citizen in 1905 and died in 1924.

Geraldine McCaughrean has written more than 170 books, including the official Peter Pan sequel Peter Pan in Scarlet. She has won the Carnegie Medal twice.
