John and Mary Lou Missall serve on the board of directors of the Seminole Wars Historic Foundation, Inc. They are editing the letters and journals of Seminole War leader Colonel William S. Foster and are working on a book about the Scott Massacre of 1817. They also serve as consultants and researchers for an upcoming documentary on the Seminole Wars.
