Excerpts

A Romantic Riverside Walk
Nyack Beach State Park, Nyack, New York

This is a beautiful, romantic riverside walk in which the Hudson River is so close you can actually put your feet in at any moment. The winding path is a one-way trail along the riverbank, but you will find it interesting and varied even when you retrace your steps. The red sandstone, shale, and traprock cliffs of the Palisades at Hook Moutain border the trail on one side, while the gently lapping river flanks the other.
The trail is totally flat, with occasional picnic tables and lookout rocks. You can go 1.7 miles to the end or do any part of it, remembering that you have to walk back.
This is an all-season walk, although it can be cold and blustery in winter. However, many enjoy it particularly then, when large ice floes dot the river and bang up against the shoreline. Even on the hottest summer days the walk is pleasant, breezy, and partly shaded. In late spring you will find a wonderful variety of wildflowers. As might be expected, Sundays are more crowded, although we have never found it unpleaasantly so. The rest of the time it is a mostly quiet, solitary walk.
