Many of the regimental monuments tell stories and provide details of the battle that few ever read. They display unit casualty figures for the Battle of Gettysburg, and in some cases, for the entire Civil War. They show where the soldiers of the regiment were from, and where they fought. It is meant to open the door to the monuments of the Gettysburg National Military Park, which for so long, have kept their silent vigil over the ground that cost so many, so much. The Gettysburg National Military Park contains perhaps the largest outdoor collection of stone and bronze sculptures in the world, and is certainly the most memorialized battlefield in the United States. Visitors flock to the battlefield to witness in person the hallowed ground of Little Round Top, the Wheatfield, and Devil's Den.
