Some days are easier than others, yet not a single day has passed where I haven’t missed the sounds of life. As a former professional musician for over twenty years, I can tell you that the sounds of silence are nothing to hum about. From a world where sound was everything to me, to becoming totally deaf and trying to adapt to the ongoing challenges is more than just an adventure, it’s an entirely different world to me. It is a more formidable mountain than I’d ever imagine facing, yet one I’m committed to climb. What you are about to read encompasses a time span of over fifteen years. This journey has been filled with great blessings and joy, but also significant emotional pain, physical suffering and the daily challenges of enduring multiple permanent disabilities incurred from having an extremely rare genetic disorder. As you’ll discover, music was a huge part of my world for the better part of my life. Since it was one of my greatest loves, I’ve chosen (embracing a more thematic approach) to label the chapters of my journey with the use of various song titles. Some write their story in a chronological order, going from point A to point B. And although some of my writing is done in similar fashion, I felt it best to convey the most significant aspects of my story in hopes of inspiring you to pause and reflect on those things in life which we so often take for granted. I remember years ago, a pastor friend of mine telling me something quite profound, yet without knowing the original source of these words, I have no means to quote its originator accurately. Further, over the years I’ve shared this when I’ve spoken and have no doubt embellished it to take on new personal meaning. As part of the introduction of my story, I believe the following holds great truth and hope you’ll discover its relevance as you read on: “A lesson prepared in a mind will reach the minds of those taught, while a lesson prepared in the heart will reach the hearts of those who will listen, but a lesson prepared in a life will most often reach lives…” My hope, as you read the subsequent chapters, is that your life becomes enriched and you feel encouraged as I share several of the life impacting lessons I’ve learned over the years. And so, the journey begins…
