Summary

Sitting snugly on the Mediterranean, the South of France is synonymous with action-packed adventure and year-round fun. Sandy beaches edge hundreds of kilometres of coastline, racing from the flamingo-dotted flatlands of the Camargue to yummy plates of pasta on Italy's frontier. Inland, Provencal hills are topped with mysterious medieval villages and backed by snowy ski runs on Alpine peaks. South of France with Kids is authored by longtime local resident Kathryn Tomasetti. It's crammed with unmissable attractions, big days out and off the beaten track activities guaranteed to please all ages, from tiny tots to teens to grown-ups in tow. From waterparks and playgrounds along the French Riviera to insider tips in Avignon, Arles and Aix-en-Provence, this specialist guide will help your family enjoy your very best South of France holiday. Opt for one of our favourite secret beaches and swim the day away. Pack a picnic, then hike the moon-like outcrops around Cap Ferrat, hit the sheltered coves of the Esterel National Park or kayak the Calanques' turquoise bays. The Luberon region is criss-crossed with dozens of cycling routes, while aspiring Camargue cowboys can saddle up further west. And at the end of the day? Dine in tasty terraced restaurants (great for burning off extra steam) or plump for beachside, sand-in-your-toes tables, followed by a night snoozing in a treehouse, farmhouse or camping out under the stars.

Author Biography

Kathryn Tomasetti developed a teenage crush on the South of France during an Interrail trip in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until 2005 that she made a permanent move there, by way of an anthropology degree at the University of Manchester and a career as a modern art curator across Europe and the Far East. Kathryn provides features and photographs for several travel, food and yoga magazines, where she can indulge her love for alternative travel. A self-confessed foodie, she rates her favourite restaurants as Mathias Dandine in La Lavandou and Le Merenda in Nice.
