Author Biography

Russell D. Murphy is a professor of Government and Chair of the Department at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Yale University in 1969. an MA from Boston College and AB from Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, MA. He also studies at the North American College and Gregorian University in Rome. Professor Murphy is the author of Political Entrepreneurs and Urban Poverty and Organizing for Popular Rule, the latter with the late John G. Grumm, as well as numerous articles and essays on the nation's efforts to give institutional expression to the ambitious but vague promises of the democratic creed.
