Summary

Netaji Subhas and the Bengal Revolutionaries presents an authentic account of the relation of Subhas Chandra Bose with the Bengal revolutionaries All through his eventful political career, Bose maintained close contact with the revolutionaries of Bengal and their organisations. Even after six decades since Independence, there was no organised academic account of Bose's relationship with the Bengal revolutionaries. Except a few autobiographical overview presented by some ex-revolutionaries and a few prison memoirs, there had never been anything that could be considered a systematic, properly documented history of Bose's involvement in the revolutionary activities in Bengal. The chapters are arranged chronologically in order to showcase the gradual unfolding of this relationship through the various phases. The book also analyses the concept of Revolutionism (Biplab Baad) which was internalised by the Bengal revolutionaries as a creed, not just a technique or device for uprooting alien rule from the motherland. The book shows how the historic sermons of the Renaissance-men of Bengal awakened the Bengali ethos and generated in it a hankering for national liberation. This work throws light on some of the complex and controversial issues attending Bose's role in he revolutionary movement in the peculiar context of colonialism.
