Originally conceived by video game/tech journalist Jon M. Gibson in the summer of 2004, the annual i am 8-bit art exhibition has become a pop-culture institution. Inspired by classic video games of the 1980s, its art reflects the golden age of arcades that directly influenced today's game-centric society. Since its inception as an art event, i am 8-bit has become a full-fledged lifestyle brand, focused on the artistic side of gaming. Names like Pac-Man, Frogger, and Zelda resonate with gamers young and old and serve as the creative touchstones for artists such as James Jean and Gary Baseman to reinterpret their childhood memories in paint, pencil, sculpture, and plush. SUPER i am 8-bit is a collection of the exhibit's best pieces, a pixilated celebration of more than 100 thought-provoking, amusing, and fun works of original art.
