Summary

Orange is a state of mind for fans of Syracuse University basketball. Tales from the Syracuse Hardwood looks at the team's infamous 27-game losing streak in the early 1960's, Roy Runts, the Pearl's stunning halfcourt buzzer-beater that knocked off Boston College in 1984, the fabulous Final Four runs of 1975, 1996, and 2003; and Anthony's freshman brilliance that delivered the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament title in the very New Orleans building haunted by Indiana's Keith Smart and his game-winning shot in the 1987 national championship game.

Author Biography

Bud Poliquin, sports columnist for The Post-Standard, has observed the Syracuse University athletics scene since 1984. Prior to that, he was both sports editor and sports columnist for The San Diego Tribune, for which he'd earlier covered the NBA. In six different years, Poliquin has been named to lists compiled by The Associated Press Sports Editors group identifying the top 10 sports columnists in America. Through 2003, he has covered 20 Final Fours, 14 college football bowl games, 12 Super Bowls, seven World Series and two Olympiads. In addition, he has covered the NBA playoffs, the Masters and U.S. Open golf tournaments, the Indianapolis 500 and various championship boxing matches. Poliquin, who co-hosts the sports radio show "Bud and the Manchild" on When-Am, has also authored Purely Poliquin, a collection of his popular newspaper columns. Poliquin lives with his bride, Kathleen, and their two children, Nathan and Caitlin, in Fayetteville, New York.
