Author Biography

ANDRA MAKLER has worked at Lewis and Clark College for twelve years. She has experience teaching a range of studentschildren, adolescents, and adultsin public schools, workshops, and community settings. She now works with preservice and inservice teachers in the graduate school at Lewis and Clark. Andra is chair of the teacher education department, where she is a social studies specialist.RUTH SHAGOURY HUBBARD (Ph.D., University of New Hampshire) is the Mary Stuart Rogers Professor of Education at Lewis & Clark College, where she coordinates the Language and Literacy Program. She works with students of all ages, from preschool through adult learning situations, teaching in classrooms as well as conducting workshops across the United States and Canada. Her current research focuses on language and literacy acquisition with diverse student populations.
