The TExES Generalist 4–8 (111) exam is composed of four domains and 58 competencies. The TExES Generalist 4–8 (111) exam is available in both paper-based and computer-based formats. You may take up to five hours to complete it. The exam includes 120 scorable multiple-choice items and approximately 10 non-scorable items used for field-testing. Your final scaled score will be based only on scorable items. Since you are not penalized for guessing, do not leave any item unanswered. All multiple-choice questions are designed to assess your knowledge of the domains and related skills mentioned above and reviewed in this book. In general, the multiple-choice questions are intended to make you think logically. You are expected in most cases to demonstrate more than an ability to recall factual information; you may be asked to think critically about the information, analyze it, consider it carefully, compare it with knowledge you have, or make a judgment about it.Answering the multiple-choice questions is straightforward. You will have four choices labeled A, B, C, and D. You must mark your choice on a separate answer sheet or, if you are taking the computer-based version, directly below each test item. You should have plenty of time in which to complete the test, so speed is not important. However, be aware of the amount of time you are spending on each question; maintaining a steady pace when answering the questions will ensure that you complete the whole test. Is There a Registration Fee?
Yes, you must pay a registration fee to take the TExES Generalist 4–8 (111) exam. If you are using the registration form, all fees must be paid in full by personal check, cashier’s check, or money order payable to ETS. All payments must be made in U.S. dollars. Scoring the Exam
The passing score for the TExES Generalist 4–8 (111) exam is generally determined after the first administration of the test. At this writing, it has not been set yet; however, be aware that the cut score is generally set between 70% and 80%. There are 120 scorable multiple-choice questions on each of the practice tests. You must get 84 of those questions correct to score a 70% and 96 questions to score an 80%.

When and How Will I Receive My Score Report and What Will It Look Like?
The testing agency no longer sends test results via regular mail. As part of the registration process to take TExES examinations, students set up an account with the testing agency (ETS) in which they are assigned a username and password. You will use this information to log in to view the results of the test. Results of the paper-based examination are generally available within four weeks of the administration, and the results of the computer-based examination can be viewed within a week of the test.The report you will receive will indicate whether you have passed the test. This report will also give you the following information:• A total test scaled score that is reported on a scale of 100 to 300 and a minimum passing score. This score represents the minimum level of competency required to be an entry-level educator in this field in Texas public schools.• Your performance in the major content domains of the test and in the specific competencies of the test.• Information to help you interpret your results.Can I Retake the Test?
If you don’t do well on the TExES Generalist 4–8 (111) exam, don’t panic! You can take it again, and in fact many candidates do. You can register to retake it at any subsequent test administration. To retake a test, submit a new registration along with the correct payment. It is recommended that you wait for your scores before reregistering.If you choose to register for the same test before receiving your scores from a previous administration, you assume responsibility for test fees and any applicable late or emergency registration fees for both test dates.
