Summary

The 1656 English translation of Themis Aurea provides an important insight into the Fraternity of R.C, but it does have a number of drawbacks. Firstly, reprints of the text can be difficult to read if the original text is degraded by age. Secondly, old English can be difficult to read and understand. The sentence structure in some cases is different and many words are spelled differently, have different meanings, are obsolete, or are used in different contexts today. Therefore, it was necessary to review, edit, and add a foreword to the English translation to preserve its value in terms of knowledge. In this endeavor, some words and a few sentences have been retranslated out of the Latin, the word order in some sentences has been changed, and additional punctuation marks have been added to improve readability. Themis Aurea or the Golden Themis is an essential introduction into R.C. philosophy. In addition, Michael Maier addressed many different subjects including freedom, health, human nature, law, medicine, reformations, society, social ills, social justice, and the scientific method. Michael Maier's arguments on these subjects are still relevant today, which is why it is such an important book. For example, on the subject of medicine, he addressed the issues of herbal versus chemical medicines, the practices of administering these drugs to the sick, the conflicts of interest that may exist between physicians and pharmacists, the cost of medicine, and the greed displayed by some physicians and pharmacists. He contrasted the practices of other physicians to those of the Fraternity of R.C.
