Author Biography

Sam Kind 61, is a retired political reporter who covered his first legislative session in 1961 and his first governor's race in 1962. Other than six years in Washington, D.C., covering Congress and national politics, his professional life has been in Austin, where he was state political writer and assistant bureau chief of the Dallas Morning News from 1970 until 1984, when he started Texas Weekly, currently the state's largest political newsletter Ann Kilday 47, is a free-lance writer based in Austin. She is a former Capitol correspondent for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Morning News. She spent two years in the Morning News' Washington bureau, covering the Texas congressional delegation, and later worked as assistant state editor for the San Antonio Express-News
