Summary

Tarja Cronberg's original study is based on an empirical examination of all aspects of the Soviet military-technical establishment, set within an historical framework. This work is firmly grounded in political and social theory ' in particular the "grounded theory" of Anselm Strauss and Barny Glasser, which has a significant application to contemporary Russian experience. However, underpinning the theoretical significance is the practical and everyday imperative of the economic survival of a former superpower.
