Author Biography

Elizabeth Alexander is a New York Times bestselling author, poet, educator, scholar, and cultural advocate. Her memoir, The Light of the World, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Critics Circle Awards, and one of her books of poetry, American Sublime, was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist. She is the President of the Andrew H. Mellon Foundation, the nation’s largest funder in the arts and humanities, the Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. She composed and recited “Praise Song for the Day” for President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration.
