Summary

In Turkey the past is everywhere. Its inhabitants have included Hittites, Assyrians, Greeks, Persians, Romans, Slavs and Mongols; it was home to Midas, Croesus, Homer and Herodotus. Much of the population is still pastoral and semi-nomadic, while city life blends both traditional and European values.
