Excerpts

Introduction The 2002 Winter Cultural Olympiad and the Springville Museum of Art are please to present an important survey exhibition recording 150 years of Utah art. The exhibition opens on January 15, 2002, and runs until April 30. One of the exhibition's curators, Dr. Robert S. Olpin believes that "the exhibition promises to be the most significant survey of Utah fine are ever mounted." The "blockbuster" survey is arranged chronologically, to best utilize the existing format of the Springville Museum of Art. Such an installation reveals both the stylistic diversity and cohesiveness of each period of art. This arrangement seeks to maximize aesthetic impact, illuminate cultural issues, and outline historical developments. One should leave the exhibition understanding, perhaps for the first time, the magnitude of the Utah school of art.
