Author Biography

Peter Brock is Professor Emeritus of History in the University of Toronto. He has also taught at the University of Alberta, Columbia University, and Smith College (Massachusetts). He was born in Guernsey (Channel Islands) and educated at the Imperial Service College (Windsor, U.K.) and then at Exeter College, University of Oxford. He holds doctorates from the Universities of Cracow and oxford, and in 1991 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa by the University of Toronto. During the last war he was a conscientious objector, working later as a volunteer in the Anglo-American Quaker Relief Mission in postwar Poland.
