Summary

There have been some crucial changes to VBScript since the release of the second edition of VBScript Programmer's Reference. These changes have revolved around the release of Windows Server 2003 and the release of Windows Vista. Also, significant changes have been made to Internet Explorer, and Microsoft PowerShell (aka Monad). The book remains in two sections - the main body and a very comprehensive appendix section. The book is a "one stop shop" covering beginner and intermediate level topics with a view of the reader not having any previous experience with VBScript. Later sections build on this and will be more relevant to intermediate/advanced readers. The appendix section is aimed more at the intermediate/advanced reader, although beginners will be encouraged to refer to sections such as the Internet Explorer object model or the VBScript functions and keywords. VBScript Programmer's Reference begins with discussion of the general syntax, functions, keywords, style, error handling, and similar language-specific topics and then moves into an expanded reference section covering the object models in detail. The book combines a comprehensive overview of the VBScript technology and associated technologies with practical examples at every stage from beginner to advanced user. Specific topics include: Data Types Flow Control Error Handling and Debugging Runtime Objects Classes in VBScript Regular Expressions Client-Side Web Scripting Windows Sidebar and Gadgets Task Scheduler Scripting PowerShell (aka Monad, Microsoft Command Shell or MSH) Super-Charged Client-Side Scripting The Windows Script Host Windows Script Components Script Encoding Remote Scripting HTML Applications Server-Side Web Scripting Data Objects Adding VBScript to Your VB Applications
