Summary

I PREMIO LUMEN DE NOVELA

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“Leticia Martin has written an incisive and polemical novel full of narrative tension that tests the limits of desire and power relationships.” – excerpt from the judging panel’s decision.

Guinea’s professorial career at an American university is cut short after word gets out of her relationship with a much younger student. Fleeing from scandal and in search of a new life, she flies to Buenos Aires, only to discover upon her arrival that the city is in a total blackout. Her phone has no signal, and she has no idea where to go. An oddly friendly man offers to be her guide and invites her to stay with him and his teenage son, Vladimir, until the power comes back. With no gas or food available, neighbor turns against neighbor and being on the street is dangerous. The worst violence, however, is just under the surface in the household Guinea shares with her hosts and their two dogs. She soon becomes Vladimir’s accomplice against his father as, once again, a desire stronger than love or blood leads her into chaos.

Vladimir is a profoundly unsettling novel, an emotional and erotic thriller in a world plunged into darkness.
