Summary

A Voice Crying Out in the Desert honors Father Barnabas Mary Ahern, C.P. (1915-1995), whose career as a biblical scholar culminated at Vatican II. It was preceded by an outstanding ministry in scriptural studies both in the United States and around the world and followed by intense involvement in postconciliar implementation within the secretariats in Rome.
Father Ahern has been called the leading American biblical scholar in the 1950s and 1960s. These reflections attempt to carry on, in terms of contemporary scholarship, what he so adroitly initiated several decades ago.
