Excerpts

At one of the parties Charlie came over to me and said "bet you can't sit in the (50's style) icebox full of ice for 2 minutes. I looked at him and said how much money you got". By the time I climbed in the box I had around $50.00 bet against me. Now this was 1965 or 66 so $50.00 was quit a bit of money. I won the bet. I had to; I didn't have the money to cover all the bets. This started the craziness that has continued through out my life. I discovered that girls and cars went hand in hand and girls did care about the type car you had. When I was in the 9th grade I dated a girl whose mother didn't drive but needed to go To The store from time to time shortly after I got my drivers license she bought a 1966 Chevelle, SS-396, 4 speed, For me to run her around in. A 396 was and still is a strong engine and will make a Chevelle move like you would not believe, especially with a 16 Year old boy behind the wheel. I only drove it for a few months before we broke up and her mother sold the car to a guy that had it even less time than I did. He hit a tree in it, totaled it out and almost killed himself. So ends the life of my first drivable Hot rod. I got my next hotrod in early 1968 when I got a 1963 Ford Flacon. This Falcon and I were one. We weren't bad, but the bad didn't mess with us. During a high school reunion a girl asks me if I am still as bad as I was in high school. She then tells me that I had the reputation of being the the biggest bad _ _ _ in the school. I never realized it until she told me, but looking back I can see how people would think that. Only one guy ever
