Summary

Many people and financial institutions have managed money and credit poorly, which is why America is in a deep recession. Writer Teneshia LaFaye freely admits she screwed up with money and her son, co-author Darian Demetri was there to witness it. Despite the recession, Teneshia has gotten a handle on money management and has transformed her credit from poor to excellent to build her first house on a large lot in Florida. Teneshia and Darian believe the reason people are poor money managers is because they receive minimal financial education in school. So the mother and son have written this book to start off teens and young adults on the right track with bank accounts, savings, credit and investing.

Excerpts

Even though my parents were college graduates making $70,000 per year, they were always broke. Too broke to buy me new clothes. Too broke to go on a vacation. Too broke to buy me one of those electric Fisher Price cars that I always wanted.   My mom says it's too bad there's no high school class to really teach you about money because she really failed at spending it wisely, and I know many other adults that are doing the same. Some of my friends' parents have already lost their homes.   Now we have a nice house and I attend the most prestigious and one of the largest public schools in North Florida. It's all about knowing how to use money.  I want to continue to live well and enjoy money. So I am heeding my mother's advice about money, and throughout this book I would like to share her advice on my favorite subject.
