Summary

The Windows 8 Bible is a complete and comprehensive reference for the new Windows 8 operating system from Microsoft. Covering every conceivable topic from A-Z, the book will provide a value-add for Windows 8 users with its brand new and comprehensive coverage. The heart of the new release is its use as a serious OS for tablets and touchscreen devices - to that end, Microsoft has been hard at work creating a new interface for the new operating system. The book will cover Windows 8s new lock screen, Internet Explorer Immersive and a version of IE9 meant to be run in full screen on a tablet device. Also being covered is Windows 8's built-in PDF reader, a first-time feature. Modern Reader is, for all intents and purposes, a basic PDF reader on par with the Preview app included with Mac OS X. It probably won't support some of the more advanced features of Adobe's Acrobat Reader, but for simply opening and printing PDFs (which, let's face it, is what most of us do with PDFs), it will probably be a decent replacement for Reader, and all the more secure for its ability to be updated through Windows Update instead of a separate updater. Microsoft plans to introduce a ribbon interface to Windows Explorer, just like they did to Paint under Windows 7. The ribbon will replace the menu and toolbars of Windows Explorer with the exception of the search and navigational toolbar. Many new options covered in this book will help inexperienced or new users.
