Catherine Poulain was employed in fish farms in Iceland and as a farm worker in Canada, and also worked as a barmaid in Hong Kong and in naval shipyards in the US. She spent 10 years fishing in Alaska before returning to France. Adriana Hunter has translated some 70 books, mostly works of literary fiction. She won the 2011 Scott-Moncrieff Prize for her translation of Véronique Olmi’s Bord de Mer (Beside the Sea), and the 2013 French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation Translation Prize for her translation of Hervé Le Tellier’s Electrico W, and has been shortlisted twice for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize.
