Author Biography

Dan Hopwood, MPH, ARM, CBCP, is Director of Risk Management for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.?He has both managed and owned risk consulting firms in addition to being an officer and manager for insurance companies and brokerages. He has specialized in the development and management of safety and risk management programs, with a broad-based industry focus. Dan has taught at San Diego City College and San Diego State University. He created and managed the Occupational Safety and Health Management Certificate Program within the San Diego State University College of Extended Studies. He holds a BS in health sciences/industrial safety and a master of public health (MPH) with a concentration in occupational health, both from San Diego State.

Steve Thompson, ARM, COSS, is President and cofounder of Thompson/Currier, an employee-owned consulting company providing business improvement strategies to commercial, government, and nonprofit organizations. He has a long track record of working to improve safety in the workplace through his founding of the Workers' Compensation Training Consortium and teaching at the college level. He has served in safety and health management positions for small, medium, and large companies, and he has helped hundreds of companies improve their business operations, human resources functions, and safety and health programs. He is a former air force medic, and holds a BS in health care management from Southern Illinois University.
