from the Introduction When it comes to losing weight and keeping it off, what really works? I have been looking for the answer ever since I started modeling at the age of thirteen and had to fight my own weight problems. I looked to the most beautiful bodies in the business to give me the answers and direction. When I became a reporter and image consultant, regardless of the story I was covering, at the end of the interview, if there was a body I admired, I wanted to know how it happened. Have you always been slim? If not, how did you get the weight off? How do you stay so disciplined? What do you eat? What do you avoid? Is your family slim? How do you lose weight quickly when a film or modeling job comes up? What's your favorite low-calorie recipe? Usually, when the microphone comes down, the reserves fall away and the stars shared their secrets with me. It was not just celebrities who intrigued me. My nationally broadcast "lifestyle" shows featured "real" people who shared with me both their triumphs and tragedies. Again, their weight played important roles in their relationships, self-esteem and career choices. In my research for this book, I interviewed men and women who spent countless dollars on books, pills, pricey diet and exercise programs and other promises. I tracked down friends who had friends with important life-changing stories. This book is a compilation of tips from famous celebrities and "real" people. I have talked to trainers to find out the best exercises and equipment for the least money. I have worked with nutritionists, physicians, and chemists to find the natural supplements that are important aids to weight loss. I hope I have covered everything. Probably like you, I have tired of diet books that tell one story, one struggle, one philosophy. Although these books are well-intentioned, what worked for me, him or her may not drive you to your own answer. My hope is that you will draw on your own inspiration and create your own lifestyle changes from my pursuits. In order to get the intimate stories in this book, I had to promise my subjects total anonymity, so I have identified them only by their first name, age, and the amount of weight they have lost. Weight losses ranged from just 10 pounds to almost 200 pounds, but the weight must have stayed off at least five years to be included. Like many of us, my contacts had often lost and regained weight several times before finally reaching their permanent goals. Use this book to find the keys to success that exist within the framework of your own personality. These are the tools and information you will need to get there, but it is you who will do the work and reap the fabulous rewards to come.
