Summary

Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) became a soldier by chance and necessity ratherhan by choice. He spent nearly his entire life fighting Israel's warsgainst Arabs and Palestinians. His natural talent for strategic thinking, eep analysis and detachment from the political game, placed him first at theop of the Israeli military and later political echelons. He was an admiredhief of Staff, an orthodox ambassador, a dedicated Defence Minister andwice led his country as Prime Minister. After the first Palestinian uprisingn the late 1980's sent shock waves through the country, he started toealise that Israel could not win this war by force. Upon his re-election asrime Minister in 1992 he instigated a diplomatic process to end the conflict.ragically his lack of political vision, his deep rooted ambivalence towardshe Palestinians, together with his cautious instinct prevented him fromully implementing the peace process for which he was ultimately murdered in995 and for which he is still remembered today.
