Summary

This deeply felt picture book from Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and her son Harry--authors of the memoir Under Our Roof--reassures children that, even when the grown-ups in their life are absent, they are loved and enough as they are.

When you can't stop the lightning or calm the crashing thunder,
you can look inside your heart,
where there's hope.

An evergreen message about hope and unconditional love is told through the story of a bunny separated from its parent during a rainstorm and all the forest friends who come together to offer help. This lyrical book will touch children who have experienced deep loneliness or isolation, and is crafted especially for those who know the unique heartache of witnessing a family member suffer from addiction.

This book is a child's companion to the authors' memoir, Under Our Roof, a story of opioid addiction and recovery. You Are Always Loved reinforces the message that it's never the child's fault and they are loved no matter what.

Author Biography

Madeleine Dean is the congresswoman for the Fourth District of Pennsylvania, in suburban Philadelphia; a member of the House Judiciary and House Financial Services committees; and vice chair of the Bipartisan Women's Caucus. From 2012 to 2018, Mad served in the Pennsylvania House. From 2001 to 2011, she taught writing at La Salle University, and her writing has appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Daily News, and other regional publications. She and her husband, PJ Cunnane, live in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, and have three sons (including her co-author, Harry); two daughters-in-law; and three grandchildren. She and Harry have also written an adult memoir, Under Our Roof. You can find out more about her on Twitter at @RepDean and on her congressional website, dean.house.gov.

Harry Cunnane has been an active member of the addiction recovery community since his recovery began more than seven years ago. Harry participates in a twelve-step program and volunteers at rehabs and jails around Philadelphia to spread a message of hope. Harry now works as a resource director for the same treatment center where he originally sought help for his own addiction. Harry and his mother, Madeleine, have also co-written the adult memoir, Under Our Roof. He lives in Audubon, New Jersey, with his wife, Juliet, his daughter, Aubrey, and their son, Sawyer. You can find out more about him on Twitter and Instagram at @HarryCunnane.
